Monthly stipend guidance

Hainan's notice does not publish monthly amounts. The national CSC funding guide gives general graduate rates of RMB 3,000 for master's study and RMB 3,500 for doctoral study. Confirm your final entitlement with the university.

Budget beyond the award

Travel and document costs are not listed among Hainan's benefits. Set aside a separate budget for these expenses.

Eligibility and language requirements

Hainan University's official graduate notice sets separate academic and language conditions for the master's and doctoral routes. Check the program-specific rules before applying.

• Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens in good health.
• Master's applicants need a bachelor's degree and must be under 35.
• Doctoral applicants need a master's degree and must be under 40.
• Chinese-taught programs require HSK Level 4 or above.
• English-taught programs accept IELTS 6.0 with every band at least 6.0, TOEFL paper-based 560, or TOEFL iBT 78.
• Native English speakers are exempt from the English test requirement stated in the notice.

Can a previous English-medium degree replace a test?

The published call does not offer a universal waiver for a prior English-medium degree. If your evidence differs from the listed tests, ask Hainan University for written clarification before relying on it.

Match the teaching language to the evidence you can provide. Keep a separate checklist for each shortlisted program, including its academic prerequisites and any department instructions. A language exemption for one applicant or university does not establish an exemption for another. If you need clarification, retain the university’s written response with your application records so that your supporting evidence is easy to explain. Hainan describes selection as individual application, institutional recommendation, expert assessment and merit-based admission. The official notice highlights academic background, professional ability and future potential. Your study plan should therefore explain your preparation for the selected degree and the work you hope to undertake. Keep the explanation specific to your own academic record and proposed field.

The notice normally places pre-admission letters in mid-March for successful applicants and says the university will notify them to upload documents promptly to the CSC system. A submitted application should therefore be followed by regular checks of your email and application account. Keep your passport details, application numbers and final uploaded files together. If a request arrives, respond through the channel specified by Hainan rather than assuming that the initial submission completes every stage. For an unresolved program, language or deadline question, contact the university admissions office listed in the official notice.

How to apply for the Hainan University CSC Scholarship

1. Read the official program list and select the degree and teaching language that match your academic background.
2. Complete the CSC form through Campus China, using Type B and agency number 10589.
3. Submit the matching application through the Hainan international student platform.
4. Follow the portal instructions for pre-admission documents, corrections and later updates.

Use the same spelling, degree title and academic history in both systems. Save your submission confirmations and monitor the university platform for further instructions.
